For the outside of this project, I wanted to make sure that the edges met perfectly. So I made the image together on a doccument. When I was done, I used a clipping mask to make the final outside image.

Postage Stamps

November 10, 2008 at 9:41 pm (Uncategorized)

For my postage stamps, I decided to pick a fun topic. I chose Barbie because I knew that I could use bright colors and fun fonts. Here are some original pictures that I later used for my stamps. 300_239441The Vintage Color Magic Barbie Doll, introduced to the market in 1966, has the body and face of the American Girl Barbie Doll, issued in 1964 and 1965, and featured bendable legs. What made this doll special was the fact that it had the ability to change colors.

300_238591What is the Bubble Cut Barbie? She came after the wildly popular “Ponytail Barbie” – that classic 1950’s Barbie with the ponytail and bangs. In an era of Jackie O, Marilyn Monroe, and high fashion, this was a Barbie that had clearly been to the beauty salon and showed her glamorous roots to everyone. Her haircut – called the “Bubble Cut,” hence the name of this Barbie – was a short bob with bangs, parted on the side. The updated haircut was huge success with little girls (and moms!) everywhere and a bestseller from the start. Introduced in 1961, she was an instant hit and was produced until 1965. She had a wide range of hair colors – ash blonde, jet black, with reds and browns in between – and had long eyelashes and modern makeup and a full wardrobe of fashionable clothes to go along with her new hairstyle.

There are two other photos that I used for this project, but you will have to wait and see them in print! =)

sketchbook project 3

a) with the first 3 types (serif), the fonts all look somewhat similar. the third one (verdana) appears the largest, even though all fonts are at 36 points.

b) the last 3 fonts (sans serif), differ a lot more than the serif fonts. there is a distinct difference. bookman old set width is more than times new roman, but times new roman is similar to adobe caslon. the main difference between these is the x-height.
